Altar Guild

The Altar Guild of the Church of the Good Shepherd is made up of volunteers. We prepare the table for both the 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. services and clean up after the services.

We are also responsible for preparing the Altar for funerals, weddings and baptisms.

We also decorate the church and set up for the seasons of the church year, such as Christmas, Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter.

All are welcome to join this ministry. If anyone is interested in serving on the Altar Guild, please contact the Church Office to let them know of your interest.

Liturgical Team

Good Shepherd’s Liturgical Team is led by our Priest in Residence, the Reverend Canon Patricia Powers.

The Team consists of Eucharistic Ministers, Eucharistic Visitors, Lectors (Readers) and Ushers.

A plate of bread and a cup of wine on a table.

The Eucharistic ministers are trained in the procedures of administering the Sacrament of Holy Communion and the reading of the Psalms and Canticles under the guidance of the Rector, the Priest in Charge, the Priest in Residence or the Deacon. After the training is completed the Eucharistic Ministers are licensed by the Bishop, The Eucharistic Visitors receive additional training for serving Holy Communion outside of the Church, have background checks and are then licensed by the Bishop.

The Lectors read the Old Testament readings, the Epistle (New Testament) lessons, and the Prayers of the People. They do not require licensing by the Bishop.

The Ushers greet parishioners as they enter the church for services, distribute programs, and assist parishioners to seats as needed. They also recruit parishioners to bring forward the elements for Holy Communion. Additionally they perform the offering collection and perform an attendance count. The Ushers also help the Liturgical Team members by identifying parishioners that will need Holy Communion brought to them at their seat and signaling that to the Liturgical Team during Holy Communion.

If you feel called to serve in any of these ways, please contact the office or Rev. Pat.
